Program Information/Mission

The mission of the Respiratory Therapist program is to prepare graduates to enter the professional practice of respiratory care by providing the resources, curriculum, and clinical experience to assume primary clinical responsibilities for respiratory care modalities.

Admission to Program

  • High school graduate with HS GPA 2.7 or higher, or equivalent OR 9 credit hours of college level classes completed with a grade of C or better.

  • Grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above at ICC.

Recommendations:

  • High School Subjects to complete: two years laboratory science, one year algebra.

  • Required general education courses may be taken prior to admission into the program.

  • Students should schedule with a health career advisor to discuss academic plan for successful program completion.

Requirements upon Acceptance

  • Drug screen, fingerprint criminal background check, physical exam, and immunizations.

  • Documentation of current CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider or American Red Cross (ARC) Professional Rescuer and BLS Provider, or ICC course HLTH 041 or equivalent, is required.  This CPR certification must remain current throughout student enrollment within the health career program.

Additional Program Information

Students enrolled in the Associate in Applied Science degree program must meet with their assigned academic advisor to plan a specific course schedule meeting Illinois Central College and personal requirements.    

To Remain in and Graduate from the Program

Students must maintain a grade of C or better in all required general education and program courses.
