Program Information/Mission

The mission of the Surgical Technologist program is to prepare competent, entry-level surgical technologists to function within the healthcare community, while focusing on cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Admission to Program

  • High School graduate with HS GPA 2.7 or higher, or equivalent OR 9 credit hours of college level classes completed with a grade of C or better.

  • ICC GPA 2.0 or above.

    Requirements upon Acceptance

  • Drug screen, fingerprint criminal background check, physical exam, and immunizations.

  • Documentation of current CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) BLS (Basic Life Support) Provider or American Red Cross (ARC) Professional Rescuer and BLS Provider, or ICC course HLTH 041 or equivalent, is required. This CPR certification must remain current throughout student enrollment within the health career program.

Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP) 25400 US Highway 19 North Suite 158 Clearwater, FL 33763 in cooperation with the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).

Additional Program Information

  • Recommended high school subjects: mathematics and biological science.

  • Recommended: meet with health career advisor to design plan for program completion and specific course schedule.

  • Recommended SURTK 100: Orientation to Surgical Technology prior to program acceptance.

  • Recommended: Completion of biology course requirements (BIOL 140 & BIOL 210) prior to program acceptance.

To Remain in and Graduate from the Program

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all BIOL and Program courses.
